1. YOU ALWAYS GET THE BLAME
Yes…always. Dishes? Your fault. Laundry? Your fault. Younger sibling’s project? Your fault. I don’t know if it’s just me, but everything feels like it depends on you. Whenever something turns up that your siblings can’t handle, it’s your fault. PS: it’s also your fault if things don’t work (TV, WiFi, microwave, toaster…)
2. PRESSURE IS REAL
Being the first to graduate among the kids in your family, you should always set an example. Because of this, you’re probably a little antisocial or too serious for people your age but developed a sense of responsibility and leadership. You’re always reminded by your parents to be this or be that. But we can’t blame them, after all you are their first, right? You have in your mind a set plan on where your life should be at this age or at that. Nevertheless, you always feel the need to get silly to lighten up the mood
3. YOU ARE THE TEST SUBJECT
Your parents are still learning how to raise a kid. Most parents haven’t had any practice in raising a kid. They still get a little rough on decision making and disciplines and whatnots.
4. INSTANT BABYSITTER
“Mommy’s not home, so take care of your younger brother/siser, okay?” Always know that your siblings are your responsibility. You have to mind them no matter how (monstrous) they are. And since you are blood-related, never expect payment for your whole-day shift.
5. YOU ARE THE PLAYMAKER
This one here is a big impact to your family. Whether you become successful or become a failure, your deeds will always reflect to what your siblings will do. This is somewhat linked to being in the “pressure”. Your younger siblings look up to you, and if you achieve a little, they might aim for lesser. But don’t worry, there’s a large chance that you will be successful in life given the pressure and responsibility you are given growing up.
Too much on the cons? I agree being an edest child has its downsides, but heck, it still got its perks.
6. YOU ALWAYS GET THE NEW STUFF
New clothes, new gadgets, new toys! Haha. It’s a rarity to have hand-me-downs. Believe me or not, I had a whole box of toys when I was young. The box was twice my size as a kid! You get to experience a lot of luxury as a child. However, it still feels a lot better to share what you have with friends or younger siblings.
7. YOU GET THE FIRST AT EVERYTHING
Since you’re the eldest, you can do much more than what your siblings can. (Overnights, swimming, parties, vacations, etc.) You get to do them first before your siblings. If feels good knowing you can do these stuff when your siblings still needs to wait several years before they can do it as well.
8. YOU GET TO MAKE FUN OF YOUR YOUNGER SIBLINGS
Yeah, you will get reprimanded, so what? You get to feed them with tons of lies AND THEY WILL BELIEVE YOU! But you can only do this when they are still very young… unless you’re a very good actor. Just don’t get caught. 😉
9. YOU GET TO BE THE BOSS
“Mommy’s not around so I’m in-charge.” Yes, I remember those glory days when I get order my beloved siblings around. haha. Best of all their is no age limit to this bossiness. Your younger siblings, no matter what age, would ALWAYS come to your command
